He was born December 10, 1956, in Waterloo, IA, the son of Richard Lee Venem and Betty Jane (Schuchhardt) Venem. He attended school in Jesup and graduated from Jesup High School with the class of 1975. He then served in the US Navy for 20 years. Before his illness he was employed by Philadelphia’s, Gamesa Corporation and managed wind turbine farms. Rick enjoyed his work. He also enjoyed sports, hiking and canoeing. He was a member of Lake Villa VFW Post 4308, Lake Villa, Illinois. Mr. Venem is survived by three daughters; Nicole (Paul) Menuey of Jesup, Jordan Venem of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, Jenna Venem of Trevor, Wisconsin; one son, Bryce (Jessie) Venem of Dahlonega, GA; six grandchildren; his parents, Richard & Betty Venem of Jesup; one sister, Linda (Larry) Schmit of Jesup; three brothers, Wayne (Sue) Venem of Jesup, Roger (Lesa) Venem of New Hampton and Robert (Joan) Venem of Jesup. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Addisyn Menuey. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. – Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, with burial at Cedar Crest Cemetery, Jesup. Pump-Scheer American Legion Post #342 of Jesup will conduct military Rites. Visitation will be from 3:00p.m. – 7:00 pm, Tuesday at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA. Memorials may be directed to Pump-Scheer American Legion Post 342 of Jesup, Cedar Valley Hospice, or to the family.
